Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I used Melsoil this year, my first year with sq ft gardening and loved it!
My garden produced earlier, more and longer than my neighbors. In fact
there was one person in my neighborhood who didn't get anything at all with
traditional methods. I may give her a copy of Mel's book for Christmas. I
made sure that the soil remained at the very least somewhat moist, actually
only where the plants were because I watered with a cup as suggested in the
book. Early summer that meant about 2 times a week, during 100 degree
weather, that meant almost every day. I only have 1 4x8 bed, and have
started constructing 2 more for next year. It took a total of 10 minutes
before work to get my watering done. I have just started pulling out things
like summer squash and the zucchini because I have a freezer full of
shredded zucchini and no one ate the summer squash. I know it sounds corny,
but Melsoil worked very well for me and I wouldn't garden any other way.
There is an issue with clay soil. When making soil to put on top of a clay
surface it creates a hard layer that water just sits on. I think because
vegetables grow shallow it doesn't become an issue. But, I don't use the
Melsoil for planting other stuff like trees or bushes. Just a thought.
Teres :)
