Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
About 4 weeks ago, I pruned back my tomato plants by half in anticipation of
our October freeze. It worked well. I picked the vines clean this weekend,
and the fruit that remained after pruning sized up beautifully. I picked
green tomatoes, those with pink streaks and almost ripe ones. I've been
doing this for the past month, and all ripen nicely in the house. A couple
of the beefsteak types I picked this weekend weighed over 2 pounds. When I
pruned, I removed all growth back to green tomatoes the size of a lemon or
bigger. All flowers, newly set fruit and fruit smaller than a lemon were
removed. I figured the small stuff didn't have a chance to mature. I'm
pleased with this pruning technique and will use it again next year.
