Well, I have a small patch of strawberries which I had to plant out late
in the
season because a big wind blew over & smashed the pot they were in. Now
that
they're in the ground I want to give them some chance of surviving to
next spring.
We're zone 5b, by the way. When do I mulch for winter, and with what?
I think I
read somewhere that you should only mulch around December or so, after
the
ground has frozen, because you want to protect the roots from the
freeze-thaw cycle
and mulching earlier will prevent the ground from freezing. Is this
right? What's
the best mulch to use for strawberries?
Also, does anyone know how to get seeds out of impatiens...I'd like to
put the seeds
in the fridge & start them in the spring, but, (I'm embarrassed to say),
I don't know
where the seeds are on the impatiens.
Thanks,
Val
