Hello Julianne,

That sounds like a very good idea, providing what you grow doesn't 
require more than a 17" depth for the roots.  What color are these 
drums?  If they are red or brilliant blue, you could disguise them by 
planting vines around the outside edge so they would trail down and 
hide the containers.  There is one suggestion, though, if you haven't 
already done it, make sure there are drainage holes made in the bottom 
of each container.  In other words, treat this system as if you were 
growing in extra large pots.  Sounds very workable!
