Michael,
I attempted to grow pepper and tomatoes from seed. My attempts
failed because I didn't have a set up that allowed for enough light
and heat for the peppers. I think my cat didn't help much either.
<g> I ended up using plants. I planted red and yellow peppers.
I can't believe how well they have done. We have been eating reds
and yellows now for about 2 months, and if I can figure out how to
extend their season, we will still be getting peppers, as my plants
are still setting flowers.
Next year I would like to plant even more varieties. I have gotten
so spoiled by the flavor of the colored peppers, that my family and
I don't really care for the plain green peppers anymore.
My peppers are planted in raised beds, filled with black dirt and
have compost added. I ran out of compost very early, so I wasn't
able to amend very often. I seemed to notice that the peppers did
better for me when I let them get really dry, almost to the point of
wilting.
Hth, and if you have any more questions, fire away.
