Hi Kristina,
Glad you posted as I'd misplaced your address.

Try Frank's Nursery & Crafts--I got some plants there in the spring.
There's one on 29 out near Fair Oaks. Or Merrfield might have some--worth a call.

Janet's right about Behnke--I got some plants there last year and if you go when it isn't rush hour it won't take that long to get there.

From what I know, garlic around here is planted between now and October, and I've seen things that say you can do so till Thanksgiving. The NY Time had a long article on it in the food section yesterday (Wednesday), and you should be able to get the paper from the library if you don't have it.

Some types of onions can overwinter--I think if you want the sweet types you're supposed to plant them now. Check Johnny's Seeds--
www.homegardenjohnnyseeds.com for that, though they tend to specialize in more northern things.  Burpee might have them too--think their website is www.burpee.com, and they both have some cultivation info.

If we have another mild fall, leaf lettuce, spinach and such will do nicely--might even last into December. Carrots might be worth a try too- Elliot Coleman says you mulch them well and that they turn very sweet when it's cold!

As for me, my tomatoes are unhappy--I think they may have some sort of late summer disease, or it may just be the lack of water--though they're small and few they are SWEET. My pepper plants seem to be perking up and may yield a nice crop yet, my zucchini looks like it's going to start producing again, and the rest of my garden is inactive.
I've had a few snatched Sunday mornings to clean it up, but regular work has just not been possible between the heat and the kids.

On the other hand, my girls are both thriving and if the only crop I got out of this summer was baby Julia, I'd consider it a great harvest.

And I'm planning on what I can do this fall to get set for next year when I WILL have some time for gardening (I hope!)

I'm using this address to receive the square foot stuff, but my main address is still  lspringer61@hotmail.com

Hope your garden is doing well!

Lisa
