Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
You know I planted Sweet 100's this year. Everyone around here just raves
about them and I couldn't take it any more. I planted just two plants,
because I had tomatoes coming out of my ears...but these are real small.
They are about the size of a grape..and the flavor IS really something to
rave about. It is my little treat to eat them right off of the vine while I
am working.
Something new I tried this year, some of you might want to know about.
Cocoa Hull Mulch. Forgive me if I spelled that wrong. I hope you can
figure out what I am talking about.
This stuff is wonderful. It is clean, it is aesthetically pleasing, in fact
it is down right pretty, it mats together to form an actual barrier against
moisture loss, and really obliterates weeds, but best of all.........It has
a natural copper in its chemical makeup. The snails hate it. I have seen
snail tracks go up to the edge where I have other things growing (flowers do
I dare speak of them ) and I have seen the track make a U turn right away
from the mulch.
On the bag, they even profess to repel dogs and cats, but I wouldn't know
about that...I don't have that problem, so I couldn't tell ya.
Try it ...Oh ...the reason I wanted to tell you about it...I have found
tomatoes that have fallen off, or laid on the ground, and there is no
damage. The Cocoa Mulch kept it clean and dry so there wasn't any problem
with rot.
It kept my strawberries nice and clean this spring too.
