Re: Sweet Potatoes?

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Oh, I am so glad you asked! (even though I'm not Deany) Last May we planted
4 varities of sweet potatoes in 4 round plastic compost bins. I have been
biting my nails the last 2 months, wondering, would there be anything
there?? Would I look like a fool in front of disappointed little children?
Not to worry! We dug up the first of the four and harvested 10 pounds of
beautiful orangey red sweet potatoes in perfect condition. There were
enough for 8 children to each take one home and I got the little ones (the
largest one weighed 1.5 pounds). They were very good. Probably would have
appreciated a little brown sugar, but I wanted to know how the potato tasted
by itself.

You can grow sweet potatoes! I haven't tried planting in the fall, but
spring worked great. This is a good crop for school because the kids plant
in spring and harvest in fall. We have planted some white potatoes one to a
square foot, so we will be finding out how things fair over the winter in
Alabama.
