How "we" are Back East, after the hurricane

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Much better off than we might have been, at least in my case!

Our country place, on Gwynn's Island in the Chesapeake Bay (close to the
western shore of Virginia) was *directly* in the path of Floyd. However,
nothing bad happened at all. We haven't been down to check on the house
because our next-door neighbor confirmed by phone that besides twigs down,
we weren't damaged.

I'm not sure how to account for this. According to the Washington Post
coverage of the storm track, the eye went right over the island. We are
about 100 miles as the crow flies north of the Virginia-North Carolina
border, and NC got hit the same way and messed up badly.

At our suburban D.C. main house, we had about 10 inches of rain over a
36-hour period and high gusting winds but, again, no property damage. We
needed the rain to correct our summer-long drought, and evidently it did
bring us up close to normal.

Appreciate Peg's concern and glad to file one "we made it" report.
