In addition, the first picture clearly shows a leaf fan on the end of a
long
stalk which also suggests I. confusa. I have seen I japonica f. pallescens in the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden which has a similar looking flower, but looking back at my pictures some of them do show a hint of blue around the signal as you say. Here is one photo of that I. japonica. Ken Walker
