Just don't try to save one in the house. The dog brought one up that had a huge mud ball on it's foot. I cleaned the mud but couldn't find mom. By the next morning after no one slept that night, mom was in the front yard waiting for her baby. Hatchlings have very adult earshattering voices. <g>

Not Killdeer babies being clueless. They can play dead better than a
opossum. You can pick one up and hold it in your hand and it will be
totaly limp. Lay it down and it will not move untill you get far
enough away that it thinks it can get away from you. Gone like a
streak.
