I don’t think brown recluse spiders would live in a live garden. They prefer old wood piles, rocks, sheds, etc. They build messy webs somewhat like black widows but smaller and weaker. Black widow spiders sometimes live in my irises though. I have a phobia of any kind of spider. Even harmless ones are dangerous to me. One caused me to break my wrist last fall.

I occasionally encounter snakes but what really worries me are brown recluse spiders. I think I saw one in my iris the other day. I looked for a long time to see if it had the violin marking and couldn't make up my mind and was afraid too observe any longer. I understand they do not make webs but capture their prey by jumping.
