Neil; I am an unforgivable optimist. It is amazing what has yet to be tried. Another source of tetraploids is Seed from natural environments. It is well known that more northern populations or higher altitude populations often contain more tetraploid plants. Maybe we should be trying to get seed from extreme range conditions.

The thread about WILLIAM MOHR GIANT includes a post labeled " Re: HYB: William Mohr Giant--an amphidiploid? (0) Robt R Pries" includes an extended quote from James W. Waddick. The information is very interesting! I am delighted to know there have been successful chromosome doublings from mature iris materials. The availability of Treflan/Surflan/Oryzalin type herbicides makes possible some exciting possiblities. How about some doubled pure European hybrids, especially those involving some of only recently available species from eastern Europe and other areas formerly part of the USSR?Or amphidiploid forms of William Mohr that we *know* to be such, or doubled, fertile forms of Oyez, Nelson of Hilly and such? The possiblilties are enormous.Neil Mogensen z 7 western NC
