Dave,
Brazen Beauty has my
attention. I find it quite an interesting iris. And thank you for
your comments. I too wonder if the luminata patterning is expressing
itself here in Brazen Beauty, but just in a slightly different way. I may
have to write Keith Keppel and see what he thinks.
I guess we could have similar tastes in irises Dave. I'm
always looking for good irises, both to photograph and to grow.

Beauty
Margie,
I can see what you mean about the hint of luminata. There is
definitely a hint of white veining in your photo. It seems an unusual
color for luminata coloring, but on the other hand, I've seen definite
luminata type patterning in yellows, browns, near reds, can't remember seeing
it in pinks (at least this seems to be basically a pink ground - maybe more
yellow?) yet, but why not? This is a departure though, since the
luminata pattern is usually in the darker pigment of a given flower. It
is interesting that there is an apparent white zone around the beard, which
would be common in luminatas. I never looked this closely at this one
before, but I don't grow it either.
I'd be curious to know if the white luminata-like patterning in
non-anthocyanin colors is due to the same genetics as on flowers with
anthocyanin pigmenting.
An unrelated comment. I've said before that I favor old-fashioned
flower type in Iris, but that doesn't mean that I'm not attracted to some of
the more modern ones too. What's interesting is that there is a very
high percentage of these that you photograph and post that I like - a
lot. I guess I like your taste in Iris. Generally I go through
Iris photos in sort of a browsing mode. Open the photo, delete it, one
after another after another, without a second thought. Your photos, it
seems I nearly always look several times at, and add the names to a list of
ones I want.
