If the North American Dykes Medal has reached such high standards during all these years, it's thanks to thorough regulations, and as i said before, this is an amazing achievement.
But the world has been changing fast, particularly this last decade, and some painful decisions will have to be made concerning potential contenders to the North American Dykes Medal, that won't be allowed to compete according to these essential rules:
Most people think that 'Decadence' is a serious contender to the North American Dykes Medal but they will be surprised when they realize that since the North American Dykes Medal is restricted to irises first introduced in the United States or Canada, 'Decadence' cannot compete in this category.
 
It has been introduced in Australia by Tempo Two in 2004 and in Oregon By Keppel the same year:
 
'Decadence'  (Barry Blyth, R. 2001). Sdlg. H83-G. TB, 38" (96 cm), M. 
S. creamy apricot, faint rose midrib flush; style arms creamy apricot; F. light plum burgundy, 1/4" creamy apricot edge; beards tangerine; heavily ruffled and laced. 'Temple of Time' X 'Louisa's Song'. Keppel, Tempo Two 2004, 2004/05.
 
Since i was not introduced in North America before being introduced elsewhere, no medal.
 
 
 
 
There is another contestant from abroad, 'Slovak Prince' :
 
'Slovak Prince' (Anton Mego, R. 2002). Sdlg. AM-93/0038. TB, 33" (85 cm), M.
S. white shaded orchid lavender, slight blue veining, 1/8" gold rim; style arms silver lavender veined blue, gold edge; F. dark velvety blue purple, slightly lighter rim, white area around gold beard with purple veining changing to brown; ruffled; slight sweet fragrance. 'Edith Wolford' X 'Queen in Calico'. Aitken 2003.
 
It has been introduced by Aiken in 2003, therefore, this one is eligible.
 
 
 
 
Whether the rule applies, and it applies for all, or not.
