Margie,

My growing medium is sand and composted leaves from the forest floor. 
It appears to have a dramatic effect on the saturation of the colors. 
This may also be due to the VERY cold and cloudy Spring we had last
year.  While most of you were out and about in your shorts and T-shirts
in your gardens, we were still shivering up here 45 minutes North of
Montreal.
