Margie, thanks for posting this very clear, clean
photo of an iris with lovely color.
Just as a thought on hybridizing, however, with the
form, ratios of width to length of petals, low bud count (sorta) and branching,
I would think that to breed for this type--including rebloom--one would be to
advantage to go to some of the best of the Blyth yellow or pink amoena
sorts, or to the line that includes MAN ABOUT TOWN, or to BRAGGADOCIO and its
children from Keppel. It is easier to get a taller stalk (from Brag.) than
it is to correct---no, let me say that differently--to update the character-- of
Peach Spot. Braggadocio, in addition to being an I-sub-s Progenitor-type
bicolor also carries the genetics for making yellow amoenas. I haven't
heard about RIO, but it should act similarly, I would think. Both are very
*wide* hafted, modern irises.
These I mention may not rebloom themselves, but
their ancestries have a lot of things in them that suggest rebloom
potential. One might not get rebloom the first generation, but persistance
pays....don't we know! There aren't many rebloomers that have the
fat-'n-fluffy wide, ruffled look much favored these days. There are some
good rebloomers around that could be used with some like these. One that
comes to mind that could be a real asset is IMPULSIVE. Crossing the best
of the best with rebloomers, then selecting the vigorous, fast-increasing
progeny and crossing among them or crossing to rebloomers has
potential.
Just thinking outloud......
