I am searching information about Sanford Babson, who lived in Visalia CA, and was a winner of D. M. with his SHIPSHAPE. Is he always alive, and if not, where can I find obituary notes ?

I am just as infatuated with the beautiful new stuff as the next guy,
but here is an example of an older iris that, for me, illustrates why
certain varieties stick around in our beds while others fade away. For
me, here in southern MO, this iris is as consistent as the sun rising.
Blooms every year, has steady, regular, if not spectacular increase.
Doesn't rot. Individual blooms don't stop you in your tracks, but a nice
clump makes a very pretty, calming statement. Not my favorite iris, but
I won't be throwing it away, either.
