Re: Stalk collapse

I had it also in the spring after loads of rain, when the soil is so wet and the root system still underdevelopped for some, when they get a bit high, unstalked, they fall because their roots just slips out of the muddy clay!

Subject: [iris-photos]Stalk collapse

Just thought I'd pass along my experience this past spring.  Several of the stalks in my garden grew too fast.  Many hit the ground in the first wind.  I get a lot of wind.  This year was the first time I lost crosses to broken stalks in this manner, six of them.  This spring I'll carry stakes with me.  Better to over stake than lose crosses.
