That is a lovely JI, Sandy. I wish we could grow
them here. (sigh)

Shiryukyo
I received this via auction at the 2008 JI Convention in
Kalamazoo. It is a Shimizo cultivar via Carol Warner.
The image is very close to the actual bloom on my monitor.
This is a second day bloom; it was quite darker yesterday and
slightly higher. It has suffered through two days of rain and
rather cool temperatures. I find the substance is sufficient
considering - it is not a wet handkerchief on a stick.
I had hoped to bring it to one of the Region 2 shows, but it will
not be a good entry by then.
I planted approximately 15 from the convention and a couple more
directly from Ensata (and my thanks to Ensata for arranging the
shipping). They were potted up upon receipt while I was waiting
for our foundation work to complete. They ended up being planted
in November (!) when the ground was frozen to a depth of three
inches. All survived and six will bloom this year.
