Re: [iris photos] Stepping Out - Mutant stalk


I was just going to post a photo that I took a couple days ago regarding the same thing...the iris I had it
happen to is Constant Companion, a first year one as well and way late for an IB.  We had a late snow in
May that stuck around for 3 to 4 days and I figured it must have tiggered some sort of survival instinct in
my irises because they are almost all trying to bloom.

This is a strange phenomenon.   I hadn't seen it in 20 years, then all of a sudden one year, I had three different varieties do this silly thing.  The only thing I could think of was to blame the weather.

Took this picture this saturday afternoon.
Okay, so the stalk is short.  I mean really short, non-existant even, for a 1st year bloom and way late.
Poor flower can't even open because it is so deep in the leaves.
