Thanks for the reply. We had a similar
scenerio last year and were extremely lucky this year that the temperature
didn't drop in May (our average last frost date
is around May 25th or so). I didn' t lose any
irises last year but I lost some other perennials. Now I know why Linda was asking which ones did well for you.

I'm so sorry for such a late reply. Please forgive me.
Our biggest problem this year, as I'm sure with a lot of other
states, was not so much the late freeze, but was with all the 80* weather in
March. It sent everything up so early that when the freeze did come,
there wasn't a whole lot we could do about it. Our average date of last
frost here in Tenn. is April 15th. The freeze hit us around the 6th, I
seem to recall. The night temps dropped into the lower 20's and even upper
teen's in some areas. And lasted several days. Was not a pretty
sight. About 40% bloom, short stalks, low bud count, etc. We even
have members of our club who have had as much as 10% loss due the
freeze. A lot of rot also. Definitely not the norm for us. I'm
sure there are others here who have their own horror stories.

Jersey Cream looks wonderful up your way. Hope your
good bloom continues. We here in zone 6b will have to wait
another year. My JC does well here, but could do better if I would
move it to a more sunny location.
