I believe Nikon bought out Minolta.  We had a photo shop rep speak at one of our club meetings in regards to photograpy techniques and she was the one who mentioned Konica Minolta had sold out to Nikon . I have the DiMAGE Z 3 with 12X  Optical, 4X Digital,   4.0 MP  and just love it. I see Nikon has one they are advertising now with similar features and it looks just like mine.  Wish I had more MP's but seem to be getting some nice close-ups with 4. The anti-shake feature is a GREAT benefit for those close-up with the super macro  features.
I know several people, who are far more knowlegeable about photography than I, could give you more and better information.
