Adam, my bad!

I wasn't suggesting to plant them in the "same" clump, but "close" makes it a lot easier to judge branching and other characteristics.  The one time I cared enough to run this test, it was quite remarkable and the answer was obvious from across the garden.
<<I would rather plant the known iris "Pinnacle" a little ways away from the unknown, that way you don't accidentally call one the wrong plant.>>
It sounded as though the identification might come down to "color" and that is always a bit chancy.

One of the reasons why I've about given up on trying to help.

Wellllll,

I would rather plant the known iris "Pinnacle" a little ways away from the unknown, that way you don't accidentally call one the wrong plant.

In my original message (or reply, not quite sure), I did mention that I would suggest to the visitor she get a piece from a club member or retail source to be absolutely sure before she claims proper "name-age".

:-)

Thanks, Betty!

Color varies so much from place to place.  Lighter or darker isn't really telling.  The thing to do is buy a piece of Pinnacle and plant side by side.  It should match in all ways--height, branching, form, etc., all the way down to the veins on the hafts.

M argie, those are looking quite close to the actual photo!  I have not heard back from the guest yet as to whether she thinks the photo she took with her camera-phone is darker than real-life.

Thanks for posting your photos!  I have also received another suggestion for a name.

Pinnacle is also my guess. The photo was obviously taken under flourescent light without light  balance setting on camera, as note yellowish colouring of stems, and of background. Thus flower is more yellow in photo then it would be in person.

Certainly right form for pinnacle.
