Normally I like birds. This time of year I do not! This is on the clump of Lady Friend X Bubbling Along that was so interesting last year. This year it has bloomed four stalks and the birds got the top bud on each one of them. The only way I can see the first blossoms to open is to cut the stalks at the first sign of color and bring them in the house, and I don’t like to do that. I spray the first opened flowers, including this one, with Ro-pel Animal, Rodent and Bird Repellant. It works better than any of the other things I’ve tried, but the birds have to eat the first dozen blossoms before they decide that irises really aren’t very good.
The color wasn’t as pretty on this seedling this year as last. It was paler, perhaps due to the heat wave we had last week with five days of temperatures in the upper nineties. It just missed being 100 degrees already.
