A common name for that iris is "Walking Iris".  The irises appear on a vine-like stem - - similar to that of Spider Plants. Some people pot and hang them from a hanging basket, others (in warm climates) can safely plant them in the ground. As these vine-like stems touch the ground they will will set root and develop from the exact spot where the irises bloomed. So they increase/multiply both ways - a.) rhizome increases and b.) self root into the ground where the iris has bloomed (off of the stem). They are quite fragile and do not like cold weather.  However, you can easily bring it inside during the cold winter months and keep them alive by watering and misting them.
