Subject: [iris-photos] Can Someone explain this?

I swear I am not crazy....but.  For years I have carried around an old iris by the name of Gertrude.  It is one that came from my Mom's gardens and it is so hardy and it is a lovely lightly ruffled Lav/blue iris that blooms prolificly and has great resistance to rot, or any disease for that matter.  When ever I want a little touch of early color in a bed, I put about 3 rhizomes there to get the bed started in Spring.  She never fails to bloom and smells like a rose.  This year one of the rhizome groups that I put in a new bed next to a fence, surprised me.  Take a look at the dark bloom that is coming from this group.  I have no idea how or where it came from.  To my knowledge there was nothing but Gertrudes in this group.  I don't have an iris like it anywhere on the property!  Any ideas, suggestions????????????  Baffled in Lascassas
