Linda -- A lot depends on how
mature the pods were when they began to rot. If the pod itself is not
rotting, then cut off the rotting stem, dip the stump in a 15% clorox solution
for a minute or so, then rinse and either hang the pod out in the sun in a mesh
bag or any other way you can suspend it until it begins to shrivel and the seeds
are ripe. If the pod itself has begun to rot, you can either try to cut
your losses (literally) by cutting away the rotted portion and trying to save
the remaining portion by the airing-out method described above, just leaving
some of the seeds exposed, OR, you can squeeze the seeds out of the rotten pod,
wash them off and let them dry in a saucer or whatever you use for a drying
container. If they are ripe enough, you may get germination from some of
