Congratulations Billy!   What fun you are going to have!
 
Usually the first pollen to be applied to the iris is the one that "takes".  But being that bee came by so soon after - - and if your pollen didn't hit that 'sticky' part inside the style arms but the bee's pollen did then yes............ Holy Night just might be the daddy. Fortunately for you - when your seedlings bloom and you get mostly purple - - you'll know that the Daddy is Holy Night.  I also heard that only one of those 2 pollen parents will be the dad.............not both.  However................ I'm not certain of that myself.

Well, I'm standing their today, looking at two different clumps of iris, side by side....And I say to myself...SELF!  Don't just stand there, cross something!  Mind you, daubing is not my forte and I'm not really sure if it will even take.  I took pollen from Celebration Song and applied to Doctor Alan...Lord knows what I will get.  No rhyme or reason why those two, other than the fact they were side by side and both beards are tangerine in color.. Now to you professional daubers out there, I'm sure there are certain things your looking for in an iris....Me, it was just an impulse thing.  I applied pollen to several flowers so hopefully, something will take. All flowers involved opened this morning.  Now.... No sooner than I'm done "daubing", feeling a sense of supreme accomplishment, does a large bumblebee coated with pollen on his back, come flying over from just a few away after spending some time on Holy Night and climbs right into every flower that I apllied pollen to...aaaarrrggghhh!  Oh brother! now I've got to figure out how to get Holy Night into the parentage..LOL  Cross your fingers and pray for seeds.
