Hi Elm

Now that’s one for the keepers list. Very interesting.

Subject: [iris-photos] photo: Arilmedian seedling and its weird 2 stalks from one rhizome

This little arilmedian comes from a cross of a Paul Black SDB and a tall arilbred (Eye of Newt X Genetic Artist).  It has a small very colorful flower.  In the first photo, you will notice that the blooms look very bunched together.  That is misleading, as the fan sent up 2 stalks side by side.  The second photo, taken before bloom, was an attempt to show how the twin-like stalks were forming.  This is maiden bloom at one year old, so I hope this is not normal for this seedling.  It is probably the result of a late frost during formation, as several SDBs had 4 standards and 4 falls due to frost.
