All you have to do to find out is take a small piece of the petal and
pour some very hot water over it. Boiling is ok. Let it sit for a few
minutes, then rinse it with cold water. If it's lavender, it will all
wash out, leaving a translucent unpigmented petal.

If it's really pink, it will still be pink (i.e., not water soluble).
