Don't remember the odd beard on my plants, but I'll have to look closer
now. It is common for diploid Iris with strong I. pallida ancestry to have
long narrow beards, but this is a bit on the weird side.
Always thought of this as one among several white 'Flavescens' look-alikes,
but now it has something to make it stand out.
Had a look at photos of Mrs. Horace Darwin (which I suspect is closely
related), and the beards are long and slender, but normal. Haven't
developed this year's photos of Mrs. George Darwin yet. Seems like I would
have noticed the beards, but then I'm pretty oblivious sometimes.
