Brice, In order for an iris to bloom in the fall it must carry the rebloom
gene/genes. The particular iris may (only ??) be a sporatic rebloomer
(sometimes referred to as a California rebloomer), which only blooms when
conditions are optimal--for instance your wonderful fall weather.

IMHO, our problem with rebloom classification is not with calling any iris
that fall blooms a rebloomer. Rather, it is with the failure to break
rebloom down into it's various classifications. I, for one, would like a
yard full of everbloomers. Unfortunately, there are few irises that qualify
as everbloomers in my zone 7 garden. More common are the cycle rebloomers,
those that bloom reliably each fall, usually Sept, Oct, then into Nov. here.

However, I love irises and I will take bloom whenever it chooses to grace my
garden, even if it's repeat or sporatic rebloom. Otherwise, I wouldn't be
able to tell people about the fall that VICTORIA FALLS grew a stalk that
looked like a bush. I quit counting @ 18 buds.

I would LOVE a list of the irises that are fall blooming for you. Send it
privately, if you think others might be bored, or consider it "politically
incorrect". Even an iris that is a sporatic rebloomer in California carries
genes that might be helpful to broaden the rebloom base.

Betty in BG KY zone 7 or 6. I forget. LIke I said, the above is my opinion.
 Honest too!
