summer. The hafts were overlapping big time!
It didn't have the center stripe, but I'm going to guess this is a result
of your weather conditions and it being a first year plant for you.
Strange things can happen.
About the low bud count. This can be first year anomaly also, but I'm
going to guess the buds are there and just not visible yet. About a week
ago, I was looking at IMMORTALITY and shaking my head over a 5 bud count.
Yesterday, I found 8 buds on the same stalk! Maybe you just need to talk
tough to it! <vbg>
But not TOO tough!
AAA is being difficult for me. I bought it last year from
Schreiners. It immediately put up 2 stalks. One got just big enough
to open the terminal bloom! The deer ate it during the
night!
The plant looked great until late spring. Then it rotted. Saved
two small pieces, but they are sobbing while other iris around them are growing
like weeds! Even the Decadence one (down the bed), in the same condition,
has grown better.
No faint heart here . . . I got another piece this summer. Different
bed. It looks happy! Ah, I spotted a stalk yesterday! I wish
it had saved it's energy. Could I see it bloom? Maybe! But what will
it look like by spring?? I hope it eventually settles in. I really like
the form.
About my deer problem . . . the deal fell through on the two acre lot
next to me and the real estate company let it grow up. The deer are
spending their fall there instead of grazing my iris blooms! and
pods! I've got a really MEAN neighbor on the other side and he scares
everyone away by threatening to shoot them.
