Your small space and the timing is what led me to suggest you spend time
deciding exactly what you wanted and order in the spring or early summer.
You will be planting approximately 32 plants, if you purchase the
TBs, the type of plants you've been seeing here. It should contain
early to late varieties in blooms of your choice.
<<Will it be hard to find a garden company that is shipping from
the states or do I have to order from Austraila>>
Keith, it is now spring in Australia. They are enjoying bloom season
and making crosses. Not their shipping season. Home Barry Blyth (Tempo Two . .
.Aust) ships to America on two dates in the (our) spring. April in my
area, but there is an earlier date that he ships to warmer regions.
February? Other Australian gardens may have different schedules.
Iris shipping season in America is usually pretty short. Typically
starting around July 4 and ending Aug 30th to Oct.15th or so. This is
basically TB's which I deal with personally. Some of the other types ship
later.
Most of the smaller iris suppliers have to quit shipping early so they have
time to plant and do other garden work in their own gardens. Also, most
suppliers schedule according to the average gardener. The plants need 6
weeks for the roots to develop and support the plants through colder
temperatures.
I don't know of any iris catalogues that ship at this time. Anyone
else know of anyone that might still ship to Keith??
You might email or call Schreiners (their season is over) and explain your
situation, about the desert and your planting season. They are good about
helping people and will help you IF they can. Contact Schreiner's

Good luck!
