Hello, Mike,
I purchased Gossip Column at a recent
club auction. The description sounded lovely, and it’s a rebloomer
too. Could you tell me if it is fertile, and does it pass on any rebloom?
I’ve been interested in the
comments about bugs damaging irises. None have bothered mine. My destructive
pests are birds. I have a pink seedling that I am very interested
in. It blooms throughout the month of March, but last spring I didn’t
get to see a single stalk in bloom. The birds riddled all the buds before
they opened.

seedling
about 31 degrees is perfect, stops
the bugs but doesn't burn the flowers....rarely happens perfectly, but one can
dream.

Right, Mike --
Rebloomers here in the fall are targets of all the bugs in the county, but
darks and lights alike. To enjoy them, you need to cut them and bring
them inside. Frost puts the bugs off, but a freeze zaps the
blossoms. That elusive golden mean . . . -- Griff

Bugs irritate me a lot. Seems
to be the ligher colored, fragrant iris that attract the most bugs. Late
summer flowers seem to get chewed up a lot more, maybe because there are less
flowers to eat. That is just a casual observation, have you had similar
observations?

Relieved you have bug problems also. I notice partic
cultivars are especially susceptible. Holy Fire always gets munched.
Very nice looking seedling

Reblooming
today. this is actually a spring pic because the fall bloom has been
shredded by bugs. It still has the really nice form and flounces, just
lots of tears and holes. Fragrant Breeze X Fogbound, currently 13
buds. Bugs probably won't be an issue after this Friday, supposed to be
real cold.
