Hi Bob, I have been doing other things. Sorry. I will try to get more photos posted. The site is wonderful but we do need lots more photos. Now that the Iris Encyclopedia has been on the AIS website for three months the website is now the most viewed plant society website in the last 30 days. This is measured by Alexa which ranks all websites. The daily views exceeds 5,500 and is growing rapidly. The bad news is we only have 30% of the cultivars up amounting to 24,000 pages. Even so, those are concentrated in the more recent introductions and it is still likely you will find an Iris for which you are looking. There is a great opportunity here for hybridizers. Every hybridizer can have a page giving information about their nursery/website link, hybridizing goals. philosophy etc. along with a list of all their introductions. Since the AIS website now is looked at more that twice, and in many cases thousands of times more than any particular nursery your introductions will begin to be seen. Of course with this type of traffic I would love to get more images and more cultivars up. I believe we can do it together. My prediction is over the winter all wiki contributors can put up another time or two as many images and pages. I expect next April and May to see over a million views per month. But of course this will only happen if we all work toward this end. |
