Subject: [iris-photos] PHOTO: Power Woman

I have been asked if I had posted a photo of POWER WOMAN before.  I have, but it was under seedling number at the time, and it has been a while.  Since I have posted several of its seedlings, here's the notorious parent:

Some general comments about it--the beard has almost no yellow at all.  Only the first 1/4 inch or so at the very inmost part shows yellow--in fact, a rather rich orange.  The rest of the beard is quite blue and purple.  When crossed with tangerine bearded sorts, a minor proportion of the seedlings have tangerine beards, suggesting this to have TTtt makeup.

Introduction is being evaluated.

The Umbrata is not obvious--but can be noted as having a narrow border the color of the standards.  There is a coppery cast through the heart of the flower and underlying the Umbrata beside the beards.  The coppery undertone is not at all apparent in this photo, and does not capture digitally or on film easily.  POWER WOMAN is an easy and prolific parent both ways from my experience.

This is the first seedling I have considered letting out of the pound since the early seventies.  For that matter, few seedlings were raised during that time due to the press of other involvements.
