I think it was in a thread started by Adam Cordes,
that soaking/leaching of seeds was mentioned as being
part of several iris seed germinating methods (for
example, the toilet tank method). I had read of this
before, and have been routinely soaking my iris seeds
ever since. As someone has mentioned before, there is
a visible component that leaches out in the first five
or so days. I'm thinking / hoping that brown stuff is
the germination inhibitors. I've posted a picture
(cross-posted to Iris-Photos) so that any
"non-soakers" can see what they're missing. It's
probably just doing the same thing -- but leaching out
into their wet soil instead of plain water.

The picture is of only a few small MTB seeds; and it's
the third day (third change of water).
