Jill, I really like your idea of keeping the other seedling as an 'also
ran' to introduce along with a more perfect one. There was something on
NPR the other morning about not waiting for perfection.
Maiden bloom on this one was this spring. HoM X RENOWN (garden name of
the cross is "homer" ;-) ) 2nd year germinant. This cross produced a
bunch of seedlings that rebloomed last year, but no stalks up on any of
them so far this fall. However, there is a sib in the foreground of
this photo (another 2nd year germinant) that has 3 stalks coming along.
Nice sweet fragrance - smells like Japanese honeysuckle. Erratic
weather contributed to corkscrew stalk and missing parts. But at least
it's blooming.
This one definitely isn't perfect! Betty, you were asking for photos of
these last year (the first year germinants' fall blooms). This one has
the best bloom size & form so far. I think.
