I have a yellow *reichenbachii* here. I will
be watching its blooms for this characteristic, as I believe from what was said
at the time the plant was forwarded to me that its identity had a degree of
uncertainty about it.
Has anyone succeeded in getting hybrids between the
yellow *reichenbachii* X Astrachanica KALMIKIJ? I would think a
line of breeding including these plus Peyrard's *timofejwii* X *variegata*
hybrid and some of the shortest *pallida* variations such as LOPPIO might
make for some interesting SDB sized n=12 beardeds distinctly different from
the 4n tetraploid X *pumila* types. I think I remember L. F. Randolph or
others suggesting this line of thinking, perhaps also suggesting *perrieri*
and *variegata* Reginae but I've not yet run across such projenies in
the R&I's or Check Lists.
