My seedlings from Heronswood (I have two) which were grown from seed
collected in Turkey are actively growing, and one is blooming; however, all I
can tell is that it has deep purple flowers (probably). The
plants are starting their third season, and I had high hopes for
blooming from the larger of the two. However, it has produced a
little deformed conical glob with bare remnants of leaves in a stumpy cone
arrangement that is two inches tall and one inch wide. Color started
showing at the tip of this affair about two weeks ago, but a
flower finally opened (sort of) today. There is one small deformed
flower sticking out of the top that is about 2 inches long with parts not really
recognizable, but it is a rich deep purple. There is a second "flower"
about 1 inch long sticking out of the side of this telescoped
inflorescence. So, I won't be deciding which species it really is this
year, but I do have a pretty good indication of the flower color. Luckily
it is sending up a normal fan from the side, so it is probably going
to live on. The smaller seedling is still just one small fan from one
small unbranched tuber, but hopefully it will take off this year. Dave Yahoo! Groups Links
