I had good luck soaking louisianna seeds in shallow pots with out drainage holes, and putting some sand on top of the seed to keep them from floating. I kept them in these pots to vernalize the seeds from july-august. I did not score, or notch the pithy seed covering. In August I dumped the seeds in a sunken row, and covered with greenhouse plastic, with supports to keep the plastic up off the ground. Some seed germinated immediately, and others followed until spring. I left the plastic on all winter, this seemed to give them a head start. Had lot's of success with this on LA's and worked good for sibs too. Will Warner

However, all may not germinate the first fall and if you keep your pots in shallow water you may get some more of the seeds to germinate in the spring and some the next fall and spring. If your seeds have dried out they are probably still good; however, they are harder and slower to germinate. Soak them in a jar of water with a tight lid with no air space for several weeks before planting and then handle as recommended below. Just remember, the dried seeds will be slower to germinate, so you may want to keep the pots for several years before discarding.
