Iris bucharica

Today I was out pollen daubing my Iris bucharica clump. The flowers that
opened last night were used to pollinate the flowers that opened
today. Overcast skies, morning showers, and humid weather should all be
conducive to setting seed. I was amazed how remarkably similar the anthers
& pollen of this species are to regular bearded irises. To my eye they're
indistinguishable. I would not have expected that since the flowers &
bulbs (rhizomes) are so very different.

Anyway, if I get seed it will go to SIGNA this fall.

Iris cycloglossa continues to dwindle away. This year I'll be lucky to get
two flowering bloom stalks. It grows side by side with I. bucharica which
couldn't be more healthy, happy, & vigorous.

Dennis in Cincy (near one of the only east-west flowing rivers... LOL...
sorry, couldn't resist)
