Just a thought from the far north (or maybe I've said this before),
hardiness zones are not infallible. I'm in Zone 4 but find many things
rated Zone 5 or even 6 are okay here. My thought is that we usually do
not have the freeze and thaw problem of somewhat more southern regions.
Plants usually don't emerge till after the ground thaws, and by then we
hardly ever have freezing temps low enough to do any harm. We are
having a very warm spring, and many things are still not up. Beardless
iris just barely showing their leaf tips.
