It was maybe 1/2" long.  At first glance I thought it was just a tree bud 
that had fallen on the iris.  With more careful inspection I realized it 
was a bug pupating.  I've got a new camera now.  It's an Olympus 
UZ-770.  It does great macro photos.  I'm hooked!
