reichenbachii from Varda Gorge


Harald Mathes sent me this clone.  Photo below.  Here are his notes on it:
 
I obtained two I.reichenbachii clones from Robert Scheck, an Austrian iris lover, which were collected at the Varda Gorge in Macedonia by the late Rudolf Wuerdig, who for a few years was also a member of the ASI. They didn't set seed when I crossed them with other I.reichenbachii but gave full pods after intercrossing. They produce full pods too by tet MTBs and I now have seedlings from I.reichenbachii Varda x pink MTB seedling. I think there is no doubt that they are tetraploids.
 
I moved it to a new bed last summer and will not be digging any this year, but it should be available in my Iris Colorado Website price list of bearded species again in 2007.
