This "early" bloom is probably not a good indicator. I've already had a lot of days above 80 F and a couple near 90 F.  Nelsonii usually blooms after I. fulva and some of my hybrids.  My earliest bloomers are some older hybrids: Ruth Hollyman, Frosted Morn and Kreamer's Yellow.

Does anyone in a mild coastal climate grow this successfully?

I have never had a Louisiana hybrid bloom for me, presumably because
the summers are too cool here. But perhaps this spring bloomer would
not require a lot of heat.
