Hi Dennis,

Unless I'm dealing with beardeds, all of my irises are germinated indoors. It's the only way to get them to transplanting size by late spring in our zone 4.

Some species simply don't like Mom Nature's approach and usually get nailed by frosts before they're big enough to take the wild weather swings we have.
