There is, of course, some question about what the plant was, or is--when is there not such a question-- but Dykes (TGI p.175f) tells us he arranged to receive a start of the original importation from Vienna and it is this plant he had Round paint for the book, and which he describes therein.
 
He says the seeds are "wedge-shaped, light brownish, much resembling those of I pallida." he does not say anything about fertility, but I expect he sowed them, and would have commented if they were all duds. He says culture is easy, and in the picture it looks like a plant that wants to please.

'Trojana' (or Iris trojana) is supposed to be a 48-chromosome tetraploid. Can it therefore be grown from seed, or is it not self-compatible?
